About us

The Society, which was founded in 1984 by a few dedicated Family History class students, has grown into an active membership in excess of two hundred. The area covered by the Society is Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding parishes, which make up North Somerset.

Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month, except August and December, at St Paul's Church Hall, Walliscote Road, Weston-super-Mare, commencing at 7.30pm. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Visits are arranged to London repositories, and members endeavour to help those from other areas on a reciprocal basis. The Society exists to help members to help themselves and with this in mind publishes a magazine on a regular basis. This website is maintained and regularly updated and is where members can list their interests without charge. Transcriptions of a number of parish registers and cemetery records are available too from the site

The Society tries to encourage and stimulate interest in family history generally and has a very positive link with Weston-super-Mare Library, which has excellent resources and facilities. On the first and third Saturday of each month volunteers from the membership are in the Library from 2.00pm until 4.00pm to help anyone who wants to start searching for their ancestors or has a problem with their research.
