Elizabeth Jay
I am seeking information on Elizabeth Jay. According to the 1901 Census, she lived with her husband Robert Jay at 62 Jubilee Rd in WsM. She was born in WsM in abt 1870. I have been unable to locate any marriage information so do not know her maiden name or her parents names. Any assistance gratefully received

Elizabeth Jay
Eizabeth was born Elizabeth Stevens Weston-super-Mare in 1870 You wll find the whole family on the 1881 census living at 77 Meadow Street.She married Robert Jay in 1888 in Bristol Gloucestershire.
In the 1891 Census the family are living at 71 Alfred Street Weston but listed as Say not Jay.

Does any one have any information about "Jay Brothers, Ltd" Mineral Water Manufacterers from 1894 to 1939. According to the 1914 and 1919 Kelly's they were located at 49 1/2 Jubilee Road, WsM
JAY Bros. Mineral Water Manufacturers, Weston-super-Mare
In 1911, William Gibson JAY, described as a Mineral Water Manufacturer, was living in Ashcombe Road, Weston-super-Mare with his wife and children. All his children had been born in Weston but William Gibson JAY was born in Islington, London. I note that the Robert JAY of your original enquiry was also born in Islington so are these the brothers who ran the firm?
I also note that by 1911 Robert JAY is the Landlord of the Black Horse Inn in Cheltenham Road, Bristol.
There is a picture of a bottle used by JAY Brothers on this site You might try Weston Museum for more information. In 1922 Jay Bros were operating from the rear of Cedar Villa in Jubilee Road. Cedar Villa was 51 Jubilee Road but if you look on Google Streetview you can see the small alleyway between 49 and 51 which must have led to the premises.

I have Robert's place of death as Bristol and your info shows how he got there from WsM.
Interesting photo of the bottle. I looked at Google streetview and noticd the alleyway. I will check with the museum to see if they have any more on the company.

Was excited to hear from you also. I am researching the Jay family for my wife, Lesley, who is the great grand daughter of Elizabeth and Robert. Her grandfather was William (the 1st born child) who emigrated to New Zealand. I am new at this so am plodding along. We would be interested in any information you have. We can provide details of William's descendants but you probably know more than we do about the ancestors.

Wow! You have already provided me with some information I did not already have. I knew Willie had emigrated to New Zealand and believed that he had died in the 'flu epidemic of 1918. What I did not know was that he had children! I never heard any mention of them from my grandmother. I have a photo of him and his wife which I can scan and pass on to you - when I can get the help of my children (who find that kind of thing simple). It is my belief that there are not that many descendants of the 12 Jay children as although many married, most did not have children of their own. Put off the idea buy having 11 siblings perhaps? Looks like I have discovered a cousin.

William did die in the flu epidemic of 1918 but he had married and had two sons. Cyril Robert and Douglas Wilfred (Lesley's father). Douglas had two children, Lesley and Terence. Lesley remembers her mother mentioning Philip.

To anyone researching this family I thought you may be interested to know there is a bottle for sale on ebay (not mine!) regarding the Jay Bros. I don't know if this is a rare find or not but thought it may be of interest to the families concerned. The seller has also put some information about the company in the details
