The Future Of North Somerset Museum

You may have heard about North Somerset Council's proposal to close and sell the North Somerset Museum, in Burlington Street, Weston super Mare, that is, all of the buildings including Clara’ s cottage - and to replace it with a 'Visitor Attraction' on the seafront and a touring exhibition.

Following concern expressed by the users of this service talks are now taking place to ensure its future and the possible creation of a new heritage trust - formed through a coalition of North Somerset, Somerset and Weston Councils - is being discussed. It is now hoped that the building in Burlington Street will remain open.

The proposal is that the responsibility for the premises would transfer to Weston Town Council, which would take on the challenge of improving the building and developing opening hours and facilities to create a 'vibrant' attraction.

If you have any points to raise about the future of the Museum please will you continue to make them known to admin@weston-super-maretowncouncil.gov.uk.
