- UK & Ireland Genealogy This is probably the best single resource for genealogy in the UK

- Free birth marriage and death indexes FreeBMD is a project to put all the English indexes freely available on the web. There are many, many records on the site, with more being continually added.
- Free census indexes FreeCen is a project to put all the English indexes freely available on the web. There are many, many records on the site, with more being continually added.
- Free Parish Registers FreeREG is a project to transcribe, and make freely available, parish registers from the UK. A sister site to FreeBMD and FreeCEN.
- 1901 Census online from the PRO This is a pay per view site, but the basic search is free. (LINK NO LONGER VALID).
- Find My Past Web Site Contains GRO Index, censuses, baptisms, marriages & burials, military and migration records etc. Requires payment.
- The National Archives The government's web site of national archives.
- Historical Directories A site containing local and trade directories from the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
- Cyndi's List This is a massive website dealing with genealogy all over the world, but it does lead you to the information about England. It has a long list of links to very useful resources.
- Genealogy Links This site has links to over 3,000 indexes in the UK and Ireland and is a good place to find research info.
- English Record Offices and Archives Lists English record offices and archives that are on the web. You'll also find Welsh and Scottish lists here (but not Irish?).
- www.familia.org.uk Lists of genealogical resources in public libraries. (LINK NO LONGER VALID).
- Old Maps Site This site provides free access to first edition historical maps of Great Britain dated between 1846 and 1899.
- Federation of Family History Societies This site gives advice on researching family histories and lists all the affiliated Family History Societies in the UK.
- Commonwealth War Graves CommissionThe Commonwealth War Graves Commission site is an excellent place to search for people killed during various wars.
- Society of Genealogists This site gives details of who they are, what they do, and the resources they have to aid you in your research.
- English Names Directory This site lists surnames being researched in the UK.
- Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain The Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain web site.
- Family History: Getting started A good site for introducing you to the basics of Family History.
- UK BM&D Transcripts This site provides links to transcriptions of Registration Documents of Births, Marriage & Deaths which have been done from the documents held at local Register Offices. They include information such as age at death from 1837 and mother's maiden name also from 1837.
