The Athay family were lead miners in the Shipham area. Philip Athay made the migation to Monmouthshire about 1858. His daughter Emma Athay, became a maidservant to WH Davies the 'Super-tramp' Welsh poet. Davies' grandmother was Lidia Adams Keen baptised 1813 Banwell.
Emma Athay married Charles George in Newport in 1883. Their son Percy George, was my grandfather.
There is a lot of information about the Athay family on the public member trees at Ancestry which date back to the 16th century. St Leonards was predominantly the family church and the parish transcripts at WSMFHS have provided many BMD details.
If anyone also has an interest in the family I would would very much like to hear from them.
