Weston Worthy - John HARRIS
published by Pat Hase on Mon, 14/12/2020 - 11:36

As you will have seen I have been unable to decide which man called John HARRIS was the Weston Worthy.  I have two sets of dates for him 1775-1869 and 1775-1855.  He could have been the first landlord of the Halfway House (on the site of the Sanatorium) - He could have been involved with early transport of goods from Weston to Bristol.  What did he do to make him a Worthy? Do any of you have a John HARRIS on your tree?  There are many about at that time and there are multiple marriages with a John HARRIS as groom.  Any suggestions are welcome - at least I may be able to discard some of them as possibilities with a little more information. Thank you.

Raymond Merrick BUSSELL
published by Jenny Towey on Tue, 08/12/2020 - 15:33

An author in the Netherlands is researching for an article or, possibly, a book on the lives of 18 British men who died there in Vorden, on May 4th, during WWII.

One of these men is Raymond Merrick BUSSELL - whose brother, Peter Giles BUSSELL, died in WsM in 1995.  If you are descended from this BUSSELL family then please get in touch with the author Robert Ellenkamp on robertellenkamp@gmail.com

horse shows in weston
published by lily39 on Sun, 06/12/2020 - 10:54

I have been researching W.H.T Skinner (c1850-1925) who bred and judged horses and appears to have won prizes at the Weston Horse/Agricultural? show. I am looking for information about this show, there are lists of winners in newspapers (Brit Newspaper archives) but I can find no details about the show, obviously a big event, when did it start, where was it held etc.

James Puddy died 1803
published by Les Martels on Wed, 02/12/2020 - 14:18

I have my 3 x great grandfather as George Puddy born 1796 marrying Elizabeth Parsons born 1799.  I have George's parents as James Puddy  died 1803 and his wife as Joan Nash born c.1766.  I was fairly happy with this until it was suggested by Ancestry's ThruLines that George had a half brother James Peddy (Puddy) born 1805.  I have no proof of this but I do match dna with someone who has this in their tree.  I don't know how accurate either of us is so wonder if anyone else has done some work on the Puddy family of Mark and East & South Brent and can help.  I seem to recall a member doing some detailed research on the Puddys.

I have been looking for the parents of James but have only come up with a baptism in 1749 for James son of Grace or James one of triplets baptised 1767 both of which would fit (I only have James death date of 1803) until I found the deaths of all 3 triplets.  So by default, it is possible that Grace is James's mother, father unknown.

However, this does not explain why other people have George and James as half brothers.  James Peddy's parents appear to be Benjamin Puddy and Elizabeth Parsons but I haven't verified this.

Can anyone help me to be more accurate with my 4 x great grandparents please.
