I have recently found that my great uncle, John R Frost, was a Private in the Sherwood Foresters and that he was killed in 1915.
I have found this information from the GRO War Deaths Army Other Ranks (1914-1921) index. I would like to know where he died. Would this information be held at Kew? I would be grateful for any ideas.
If you have an interest in the people mentioned on the War Memorial in Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare, take a look at Members' Research - for the moment in the Members' Area - where you can find details of all the 400 names of casualties from the Weston-super-Mare, Uphill and Kewstoke area. Dave Tyler has collated information about all the people named on the memorial and there is more to come. This is a fascinating insight into the human loses of this war and the realisation that so many who gave their lives were related is very humbling.
Request from Barbara Staniforth who gives her email address as barbwhiteharte@yahoo.co.uk and writes asking if anyone is researching her grandmother's family named MAYO. Apparently her grandmother's brother, Alfred (Fred) MAYO went to live in Weston-super-Mare in the 1920s and she would like to make contact with anyone who is researching the name MAYO.
I have an interest re E H G Phillips, but my query concerns "Smith H G R.N.". I have been able to trace a Harold George Smith who died on 8.8.1915 on HMS India which was sunk off Norway on that date, but I have been unable to establish that he had any contact with Worle and would appreciate any help. I have been able to identify all the others on the memorial.
This photograph, taken on the sea front of Weston-super-Mare, shows three children who were evacuated to Weston during WW2. They were billeted with Group Captain & Mrs McCRAE who lived in a house at Westcliff. Group Captain James McCRAE was the Commanding Officer at RAF Locking.
The boy was called Harold HORSLEY but sadly he died just a few years ago. Does anyone remember the girls? They were not Harold's sisters. The granddaughter of Group Capt & Mrs McCRAE would like to make contact with them if possible. Any suggestions would be passed on to her.
