Victoria Inn, Vale Cottage & Albion Cottage in 1841
published by Pat Hase on Sun, 04/11/2012 - 17:29

This is in reply to Debbie but because I want to include an image I am starting a new itemFirst Railway in Weston-super-Mare 1841

This is a drawing of the first Railway Station in Weston in 1841 and if you look in the bottom right hand corner you can read "From my window at Mrs Henry Taylor's Weston".

Debbie asked:

"Just wondering if anyone can tell me where the above dwellings would have been in 1841 Weston-super-Mare?  I am related to both the Lococks at Victoria Inn and the Taylor family and Ann Knight living in the cottages. Ellen Taylor then aged 12 and living in Albion Cottage went on to marry the nephew of Mary Locock and they were my 3x great grandparents."

The drawing and the entry in the 1841 census showing Ellen's parents apparently as Henry & Sarah TAYLOR seem to indicate that Albion Cottage was near to the Victoria Inn. The Victoria Commercial Hotel was in Regent Street situated next to Laura Buildings roughly opposite where the Floral Clock is today. The Floral Clock is on the site of the first railway station in Weston. The two cottages were therefore situated to the east of the Hotel.

Berrow Parish Records
published by on Sun, 04/11/2012 - 9:50

Hi,

I have a Marriage for a Thomas Urch born circa 1670 to a Joanna Dod from Burnham on Sea in Wells St. Cuthberts on the 11 April 1695. They settled in Badgworth to have their family.                                                                                                               I have found the baptism of Joanna Dod in my Burnham Fiche which was 27 October 1668 but Thomas Urch's baptism eludes me.                                                             In the Marriage record in my Wells St. Cuthberts Fiche it shows Thomas Urch was from Barrow.                                                                                                               I have interpreted Barrow to be Berrow and if I am correct then I am still stumped because the Berrow records only begin in the early 1700's.                                      Can someone please advise me where the records for Berrow are  prior to the 1700 start.                                                                                                                         Of course this only helps me if my interpretation of Barrow is Berrow.                       If not then I still don't know where the records for Barrow are.

There is a small hamlet called Barrow which is north east of Glastonbury but according to Somerset Records Office, no parish records exist for this place.

So I haven't a clue where to start looking; Any ideas?

I would be grateful for some advice.

Thank you

Alun Urch

Looking for the Rev. Charles Robert Evors
published by on Wed, 31/10/2012 - 23:27

I'm hoping to come and search for the grave of my 2x great grandfather, Charles Robert Evors, who was living at 2 coronation road in 1911 and I think in 1901. The house was called The Whitneys in 1911. He died there in December 1915. I would be so grateful  to have any information at all; I haven't had time to search burial records yet. Does the name ring any bells?

Sainsbury
published by on Sun, 14/10/2012 - 20:45

My family are hitting the proverbial brick wall. We have established our family tree going back to app 1725. A lot of the family were from Congresbury where are plenty of records to help us. However we believe that a Richard Sainsbury married Mary Willis in Portbury/Gordano in app 1745. We cannot find his ancestors or any other details. Any information would be gratefully received!
