Female Bankrupt published by Brian & Pam Airey on Sat, 29/09/2012 - 14:40
The London Gazette of 24th june 1862 declares- Eliza Truman Ainsley of No 1 Guildford Street, Cardiff in the County of Glamorgan, out of business, having been adjudged bankrupt a petition for adjudication of bankrupcy filed in the County Court of Glamorganshire, holden atCardiff on the 16th day of June 1862 ............"
Anothe similar entry for 11 July, but in September the same year an order of discharge was drawn up.
My question is - How can a woman be a bankrupt when , as far as I can tell, the Married Women's Property Act did not come in until 1927, so until that time all her property was actually her husband's?

I am trying to trace the birth of my great grandfather, John Stephens/Stevens. In the 1861 census he was recorded as a nurse child, age 4, born in Weston Super Mare. All subsequent records state he was born in Cheltenham. There were two other children with him, both described as nurse child - Alfred Ball, age 7, illegitimate child of Jane Ball, birth registered in Axbridge BMD and St Emmanuel, WSM Parish register. The other child was Alfred Stockham, age 4 months, born WSM. I have not been able to trace his birth in any records or find him in any other years census.
I can't find any family connection between the boys and their carers, so obviously the carers were doing it for the money. So who would have paid for it and are there any records of these transactions. Any suggestions gratefully received.
Hello, I am new on here and I write in the hopes that somebody might remember there being a recording studio in Weston. It may not have been there for very long, but it definately existed. A vinyl record was produced of a jazz quartet (Frank Jarmony was one) which included a cover of Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, sung by my mother. I have absolutely no idea where to begin or how to go about my research. I have spent hours on the internet, without success (except finding this website). It is my lifelong dream to obtain a copy of this record. If any of the above information 'rings any bells' or anyone can help point me in the right direction, I would love to hear from you!
I am trying to find my great grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Matthews born 1869 in Hawkesbury Upton Glos. I have found her in the 1891 census working as a domestic servant in Clevedon but thereafter can find no trace whatsoever of her or her family. I have been told that she married a farmer called Mr Starr & had 2 daughters, Frances & Florence & that they lived in Uphill. Apparently Florence married a butcher. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
