published by on Sat, 15/09/2012 - 17:09

Hi , i have hit a brick wall with both names in my family tree i have been looking for months for the births of William Gage born around 1779 and noted in the 1851 census as born in Kingston Seymour and Isaac Sayer born around 1773 but cannot actually find baptisms or parents of these two.Does anyone have any ideas please. Isaac lived in worle and William in Congresbury. i have the deaths for both, but no sign of baptisms.

Many Thanks

in advance

Lilian Blanche Godden
published by on Tue, 11/09/2012 - 13:38

I have just received my GG Aunt Lilian Blanche Godden's death certificate which shows she died in Weston Super Mare, the address given is Hillsborough House, Selworthy Road she died in 1978 aged 84.

Lilian came from Bath and the 1911 Census shows her working in Worcestershire - I have no idea when she came to WSM I know nothing about her except she was unmarried.  It is a long shot but has anyone ever heard of her?  I understand the Electoral Roll is unavailable until October because of relocation, I think Hillsborough House may be 'sheltered' accomodation I would like to know where she lived prior to moving there.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

Joel BIshop of Worle
published by on Sun, 09/09/2012 - 12:26

Hi, can anyone shed light on the following anomaly, in the Worle transcripts we have several Joel Bishops, in particular there is one Christened on 25 May 1721 to James Bishop and Dorcas Pane and one Christened on the 5 October 1737 to William Bishop and Ann Mason.

In the burial transcripts there is a burial of a Joel Bishop on 17 December 1824 aged 87 which would indicate that he may be the child born to WIlliam and Ann.

So far so good, however in several contemporary magazines in 1824 there is the following announcement:

"at Worle, in Somersetshire, Mr. Joel Bishop, aged 103 years: he was the father, grand-father, and great-grandfather of 180 children"

This would indicate that he was the child of James and Dorcas, so the question is who made the mistake; the person entering the register or the person making the announcement.

Any ideas?

Martha OFFER
published by daveerasmus on Fri, 07/09/2012 - 10:53

Trying to find information regarding my 3*great grandmother Matha OFFER.

According to various census records 1851 to 1881 she was born in Axbridge somewhere around 1800-1808. FreeReg have transcribed baptism records for this period and there are several OFFERs but no Martha.

She married John HILL some time around 1828 but I cannot find the marriage record either. Their first 3 children were baptised in Axbridge. Later children were baptised in Churchill which is where husband John was baptised.

Any help would be much appreciated.
