Lloyd Harold LAKIN (1892-1917)

I am researching the above who was an American merchant seaman in WW1. He married Florence Violet Dowling (1895-1984) in Bristol in Apr-Jun 1917. Can anyone tell me exactly when and where? Also, any information on the Bristol Line Shipping Company at this time. I know Bristol is not exactly in the area covered by the Society, but the Membership is usually so good at helping I thought I would give it a try!

There is a very useful site to enable you to identify at which church a marriage took place in Bristol by using the GRO Reference. The GRO to Church Cross Reference for Marriages is the result of research by a team of people in Bristol.  In this case the GRO Reference is 405 but unfortunately the list does not include this reference for the 2nd quarter of 1917.  Neither is that marriage included in their index to non-conformist marriages.  It might be that the marriage took place in the Register Office.  Have you tried the newspapers to see if there was an announcement?

The Ships List has some information about the Bristol City Line which mught be useful.

Hope you make progress with your research.
