Richard OGBORN buried 1782 - Help! published by Pat Hase on Wed, 04/04/2018 - 21:57
On our transcriptions of Nempnett Thrubwell Burials the burial of Richard OGBORN, (my 5 x great grandfather) is noted as on the 24th December 1782. Even our brilliant Graham Payne has been beaten by the words used in the parish record to describe him so he had put that he was "a * man". The image on Ancestry has me stumped as well - Please can someone take a look to see if they can decipher the writing. The nearest I can get is "a dropsical man"? but I've no idea what follows that. All suggestions welcome. Thank you.
My best guess is "Richard Ogborn, a dropsical man, in Wadling [Whitling] Street was buryed November the 24th 1782." I am almost certain that is November rather than December. If the 'W' seems unlikely look at William Green half way up the page.
Thank you both for your interest in my problem. There is a Whitling Street in the adjacent parish of Winford so that looks a likely candidate for his address. This handwriting is certainly a challenge but it does give some additional information - if you can read it! Presumably Rchard was suffering from Dropsy and if he was living outside the parish he must have had close contacts with Nempnett Thrubwell for him to be buried there without additional payment if other entries on the page are taken into account.

I think it is Weedling Street as the W looks the same as that for Wingfield a few lines above and it definitely ends ... dling. Can't find any such name on an old map for Nempnett Thrubwell either. Looks a very small village with few roads in it.
I agree with you - it does look like "Weedling" but that could have been a result of a Somerset accent saying "Whitling". The main road through Nempnett on the censuses seems to have been entered as simply "The Street".
