Help! Sealey Mogg.
published by on Thu, 02/08/2018 - 14:40

Can anybody resolve a long standing puzzle for me perhaps in the light of new records becoming available for research. Why, oh why did the Moggs of Lympsham area call themselves Sealey-Mogg?? I'm related to them through the Salters of East Brent. Why would the Moggs introduce the Sealey element and flip flop between the two depending on the record being viewed? From what I can see they have no direct connection to the Sealeys of the area, whom I'm also related too.

Any ideas please?

Oh if only I had a pound for every time I've shouted that! My gg grandmother was Harriet Sealey Mogg married to Emmanuel Field. When I first started researching this branch I thought Emmanuel had two wives as on their children's birth certs she was sometimes Harriet nee Sealey and sometimes Harriet nee Mogg. I am reading this on holiday but as soon as I get home I will contact you again and maybe we can share notes.

Yours in confusion

Heather

Thanks for replying Heather.

I look forward to some proper head scratching!
