Flying Officer Robert Hawksley HANNEY
published by Pat Hase - 7 years 5 months 13 days ago.

I replied directly to Anton de Man with information concerning a possible brother of Robert HANNEY - other members might also have done the same. As no comments were added to this site it is impossible to know whether anyone else responded.

Today I've received an email of thanks from Anton de Man because he has successfully made contact with this brother, who now aged 90, will be attending a memorial service to his brother in May this year and visiting his grave.  Thank you to any one who replied to this request.

Weston suffragettes/suffragists
published by Pat Hase - 7 years 5 months 14 days ago.

I've been looking for references to Weston having its own Suffrage movement but I have just found this article in the Weston-super-Mare Gazette, and General Advertiser- Saturday 12 December 1908 headed - Weston Women and the Vote - However it is about a meeting at which it is agreed that a branch of the Anti-Suffrage League should be formed in Weston!

The committee was then appointed -  President. Lady Mary De Salis; Hon. Treasurer. Mrs Evans; Hon. Secretarv, Mrs Parker : Committee. Mrs. E. Baker. Miss Daniel, Miss Evans, Mrs. Portsmouth Fry and Mrs. Wallace.

This may explain the apparent lack of support for a local Female Suffrage Group.  Lady Mary de Salis was the wife of the Rector of St John's,  Mrs E Baker was the wife of Ernest Baker, the Solictor, Mrs Portsmouth Fry was the wife of another Barrister in Weston, Edward Portsmouth Fry.  Does anyone recognise any of the others?

The National Anti-Suffrage Movement was disbanded in 1918.

Not sure why the picture did not appear.

Just a quick search of my tree produced this.

My wife is descended from Charles Atkins (Church Steps Minehead) and I recall all of the names mentioned from her family tree which I have been researching for 15 years. I am in contact with the only Atkins I know who I think is the last surviving Atkins of the line. He is now in his 80's and lives in the USA. Neville Atkins. I will look up all the details in the next few days.

Norton Beauchamp House and Col Flemming

Thank you Pat for this very interesting information about the later owners of Norton Beauchamp. By coincidence my father, Ian Charles Troup Innes also served with the Gordon Highlanders during World War 1. So there is this additional link, although he never visited Somerset, but married my mother, who was born at Norton Beauchamp in 1912, in Australia.
