For those of you who missed the virtual tour and discussion of the Library, the tour is now available on YouTube.  One of the items which was new to me was the 1933 Directory of Residents.

Directory of Somerset 1626-1674

We have received a copy of the Dwelly National Records Vol 2 which contains the names of all persons paying taxes or exempted from payment during the period 1626-1674.  These are listed in order of the old division of "Hundreds".  If you wish to borrow the book let me know. Refernce is BI/E/SOM/84

Guide to Emigration

The full title is "Handbook of the United States of America and Guide to Emigration 1880"

This gives the latest and most complete statistics of The Government, army, navy, police, diplomatic relations, finance, revenue,tariff, land sales,homestead and naturalization laws, debt, population by state, agricultural conditions, areas for cultivation, domestic postage, labour tables, education, railways etc - furnishing all the necessary information concerning the country for the settler, businessman, merchant,farmer, importer and professional man"

There is a section on the average weekly wage for every job and who should migrate to the west.  An interesting book for putting meat on the bones of ancestors who emigrated.

NO Help Session on Easter Saturday, March 26th

For various reasons, it has been decided that there will not be a Help Session held at the Library on Saturday, 26th March.   N.B.  The Library will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday and although it will be open on the Saturday we will not be there but we will be back on the following Saturday from 2.00 until 3.30pm. and look forward to seeing you then.
