Jean Lewis, Clevedon Hotel
published by - 8 years 2 months 4 days ago.
Hi there. I have some information on this. Jean Lewis was rescued from the hotel by my grandfather - Leading Fireman Benjamin Marsh. He got a commendation for this. I have a few newspaper cuttings relating to the tale, and a picture of the hotel taken on the day after the fire showing a fireman there. I can send you these. I would love to see a picture of Jean from the time - 1951 - to complete the story. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Thanks for clarification, did you have any other information on Jean Lewis or the fire at the hotel?

Jean LEWIS - Clevedon Hotel Fire 1951

You mean the Clevedon Hotel, not Cleveland Hotel, which was at 40 Beach Road.  The fire was the subject of a previous query see here for details.  What other information are you looking for?

Ship Elizabeth from Bristol to NY May 1848

Ann & Sarah Ann Radford in a family group of William Wells (Wedmore) which were listed as follows: Mr Wells 55, Eliza Radford 16?, Jane Wells 50, Ann Radford 24?, Caroline Radford 22?, Sarah Ann Radford 4, Wm Wells 18, Edwin Wells 7. Many ages are written thru. Family Bible date lists Ann Radford Parker birth date 12 Sep 1822. I have baptism for Eliza Radford 22May 1825 Wedmore parents John & Jane Radford & Caroline born 1823--perhaps the Caroline Radford on the ship? Looks like right family?

Ann RADFORD
published by Pat Hase - 8 years 2 months 12 days ago.

On the 1841 Census of Wedmore there is a John RADFORD whose age is given as 55 with three younger RADFORDs.  Looking at the parish records for Wedmore there are children baptised there between 1813 and 1833 whose parents are John & Jane RADFORD but they do not include an Ann.  Of course she could have been baptised with one name but known by another. Perhaps you need to look at each of the girls and see if you can eliminate them from the equation.

On the 1841 census your Ann RADFORD's age is given as 20 which, allowing for the approximation of ages to the nearest 5 years downwards in that census means that she could have been 24 in 1841 - do you have a later age check for her?
