CommentsSarah Ann THOMAS born about 1846 published by Pat Hase - 8 years 4 months 8 days ago. | | Using the new GRO index you can find the maiden name of Ann when the birth of Sarah Ann was registered. (Yatton was in the Registration district of Bedminster). Ann's maiden name appears to be CRUSE but they were married before civil registration started.
FreeREG gives a marriage of a George THOMAS to an Ann CRUSE at St Swithin's Church, Walcot, Bath on the 26th Oct 1834. You can see the image of this Somerset marriage on Ancestry but no further details are given of this couple.
On the 1841 census George THOMAS says he was born in Somerset but Ann is not born in Somerset. However, they are living with another Ann Thomas, aged 75, who might be George's mother (or elder sister?) who was also born in Somerset. This would infer that it was later that the family moved to South Wales.
Hope this helps a little.

Sprod published by - 8 years 4 months 10 days ago. | | Ah, Sprod. That's a famous name in the old postcard business, W A W Sprod being a stationer in Stokes Croft, Bristol, around 1900 whose used postcards are still circulating today. I can't help you, alas, but I've often wondered if Mr Sprod's original photos are archived somewhere. Perhaps you know?

Hicks and Sprod Families; Banwell, Kenn and beyond published by SMaguire - 8 years 4 months 10 days ago. | | I am new to WSMFHS and until now I have been independently researching the Hicks and Sprod families.
My mother's maiden name was Hicks (Banwell) and her direct line came from Lympsham. I have also discovered that we are widespread! Lympsham, Berrow, Brean, Banwell, Wick St Lawrence, Congresbury, Kenn, Bristol.
An interesting point, Thomas Sprod (Kenn) and Sarah Hicks (Banwell), both widowed, married. Then Thomas Sprod's daughter, Sarah Jane, and Sarah Hicks' son, John, married! So these are my great great grandparents and great grandparents.

Urch family Wedmore published by - 8 years 4 months 14 days ago. | | Hi. Alan Urch - son of the radio shop proprietor - was a drinking pal of mine in the 60s. He has a brother Les, who was a professional ocean sailor, crewing large yachts to various exotic destinations.I don't know what became of Les.
I called at the old shop in Wedmore a few years ago and met up with Alan, who lived in the house at the rear of the property. Alan married Joan in Weston-super-Mare in the 70s and had two children - although they did part ways some years later.
Mr and Mrs Urch had a bungalow built at the (then) far end of the village on the Glastonbury road. Alan had two great pals - Ray Ham, who came from Mark and moved to Cheddar, and Peter (Percy) Sharp who went off to university and I don't know if he returned. You may be able to trace more info from the above...
