CommentsThomas Ellaway published by bevercombe - 8 years 9 months 13 days ago. | | The 1939 register shows Thomas Ellaway b.12 Aug 1901 living at Church Street, Axbridge. He and his wife had already separated and Alice Ellaway b.12 Dec 1902 is living at The Bungalow, Tutters Hill, Axbridge. The names of 4 other occupants have been redacted, presumably 4 of her children. The 5th child had been in the institution at Yatton Hall, Yatton, where Thomas Ellaway had been ordered to pay 2 shillings a week towards the child's maintenance since 1928, according to the newspaper archive.

Edward Thomas Ellaway published by bevercombe - 8 years 9 months 14 days ago. | | No need to buy the marriage certificate - Edward Thomas Ellaway (1901-1983) married Alice Rosina Bailey (1902-1952) in 1923. His father was Isaac Robert Ellaway (1873-1939) and her father was Albert Edward Bailey (1872-1905). They had 5 children - Alfred 1923, Mary 1924, William 1926, and twins Albert & Cicely 1930. Thomas and Alice Bailey were divorced in 1945. Looking through the newspaper archives, he is mentioned on more than one occasion for non-payment of maintenance for his wife and children. He married Phyllis M Taylor in 1973.

Jane Elizabeth ROSKILLY 1796-1870 published by Pat Hase - 8 years 9 months 15 days ago. | | She was probably Mary Elizabeth ROSKILLY (transcribed as ROSHILLY on the 1861 census) who was born in about 1796 in Nether Stowey, Somerset and died in 1870 in Weston and is buried in Weston Cemetery along with her cousin Jane BULLER with whom she was living in 1861.
Her parents were the Rev. William & Mrs Mary ROSKILLY and I believe she was their only daughter.

POPE, John published by Pat Hase - 8 years 9 months 15 days ago. | | I'm not sure where you were looking to find a gap in the Backwell Baptisms - On our site, accessible to full members, there is no gap in the baptisms. There are POPE baptisms there during that period.
Of course it is possible that your John POPE was a non-conformist so there will be no Cof E Baptism for him although he would have had to get married in a C of E Church at that time.
Although he said he was of Backwell when he got married he might have only recently moved there. Try surrounding parishes or even Bristol for baptisms. Did they continue to live in Backwell? What was his occupation? Where did he die? Was an age given at death? Lots of questions but hope you find him.
