CommentsThe Cuff family published by - 8 years 9 months 21 days ago. | | Hi, a William Cuff was my 3x great-grandfather. I believe he was baptised in Banwell in 1800 and was buried there in 1868. He married an Elizabeth ? in 1819 at Chard, she was also buried in Banwell in 1873. Their daughter, Elizabeth, baptised 1831 [Winscombe or Sandford] married my 2x GG John Lancaster in 1851 at Banwell.John was a journey-man butcher.and both he and Elizabeth were Buried in Banwell in 1892 and 1890 respectively.
They had 8 children, Thomas baptised 1860 at Banwell was my GG. He married Elizabeth Denham in 1880 at Bedminster, Bristol.and their son Thomas was my grandfather. Thomas and his two brothers fought in the 2nd World War.
Hope you enjoy your visit to Banwell. The last of my aunties died there recently, two weeks befor her 100th birthday.
I hope to hear from you. Jane from Nottingham

William Cuff published by - 8 years 9 months 23 days ago. | | Wondering if any one has information on William Cuff (died 1814), my 4th great-grandfather. I've located burial records in Axbridge as well as marriage records. He married Sexa Day (1782-1869) in Axbridge on Feb 25, 1805. He was a resident of Weare at the time of the marriage and a tailor. I'm hoping to find out info about his birthdate (perhaps 1775 or 1779) and where he was born, along with info on his parents.
Any help appreciated - I'll be in England next week for business and hope to make a side trip to Somerset to see were my forefathers emigrated from. | |
Battle of Sedgemoor - Rebels published by hillfield53 - 8 years 9 months 24 days ago. | | Thank you Pat
This is most helpful. They were tried at Wells but as yet I don't know which parish they were from. I'll look up those accounts for Westonzoyland and work out from there.
Regards
Heather

FIELD - Battle of Sedgemoor - Rebels published by Pat Hase - 8 years 9 months 25 days ago. | | You may already have seen this but one of the librarians at Weston Library recommended this site for a background to the Battle of Sedgemoor. He also recommended this List of Rebels but as far as I can see there are no FIELDs mentioned on this list. I did come across the Zoyland Heritage site which lists the names you have found but do check before visiting to see if the Visitors' Centre has been re-opened.
For more details about individuals you might try the Church Wardens' Accounts, the Overseers' Accounts or the Vestry Minutes for their parishes because depending on their fate their families may have sought aid from the parish.
Some families have included information about the Battle of Sedgemoor in their family trees online. The parish of Merriott has a web page devoted to families from that parish and that does list some of their inhabitants who were rebels.

Star family of Draycott published by - 8 years 9 months 25 days ago. | | Does anyone know anything about the Star family that lived at Draycott on the farm "Elmhay"? They were also connected to the "Bull" family by marriage. As far as I know the Star family lived in Draycott for at least 200 years till the 1960s.
