William Henry Jervis

HI Pat In browsing around this question, I note that in the 1911 Census William lists himself as a pensioner of the 16th Lancers. The Anglo-Boer records (findmypast) list W H Jarvis (sic) as a private (3351) in the 16th. He gained the Queen's South Africa Medal with 5 clasps. The clasps were awarded for events in 1900 but I wondered whether he was still serving in 1901 and thus not likely to be in the 1901 census? There is no mention of military service in the 1901 census that you mention. There is a second Boer War record transcription this time for a W H Jervis in the Anglo-Boer records 1899-1902. There is no service number or unit but he is a private in the regular army. I see that he married Rose Amelia Stock in Bristol in 1907. Hope that is of some help. I shall ponder it more. Stuart

We would like to be able to help but have you any idea about where in Somerset Jesse JAMES was living?

The ROYNON  surname often crops up in this area of Somerset - it would be easier to help you if you could tell us where your John ROYNON lived.

James Robert PIPER and Frank PIPER
published by Pat Hase - 9 years 5 days ago.

By using FreeBMD I can see that the birth of a James R PIPER whose mother's maiden name was JORDAN was registered in the June quarter of 1915 in Bristol.  There is a marriage registered in the Sept quarter of 1911 of a Francis PIPER to a Florence R  JORDAN - This looks like the parents' marriage as Frank is used as a version of Francis.

There is a death of a Francis PIPER in Bristol aged 39 registered in the December qrt of 1929 - Could this be the death you mentioned with a different age?  This suggests a birthdate of about 1890.  On the 1911 census a Frank PIPER, aged 20 was living at 2 Eugene Gardens, Eugene Street with his parents - some connection with Mrs ANGERSON?

According to the 1939 Register James R PIPER, a Railway Porter and Ambulance Driver, born 1 April 1915 is living at 14 Addiscombe Road, Bathavon with a widow Florence PIPER born 15 June 1893 - presumably his mother?

Whitecross Nursery, Walliscote Road

Sue has answered your question but you might be interested in this Map which shows the extent of the Whitecross nurseries in the 1880s.  They were in the garden of Whitecross House - a part of the house is now incorporated into Victoria Methodist Church Hall and the rest of the site is now awaiting another redevelopment covering the Police Station and the Magistrates Courts.

William BROOKS and members of his family were buried in Weston Cemetery and he died in Dec 1924.
