JASPER AND HANNAH HANCOCK
published by - 9 years 2 months 1 day ago.
Grahram, I am sorry you are looking at the wrong Jasper, this Jasper is the son to the Jasper and Ann Petheram that I have requested help with. So I think you should read my enquiry. I am not MISTAKEN with my enquiry. I was asked by Pat if there could have been a error in the Ann's name. And I told her no that this Jasper is the son. If I have been given the wrong information by the Church Warden then I am wrong, but why would they tell me that JASPER AND ANN ARE NOT BURIED IN THE CHURCHYARD. Can you please explain that. If not don't you think that the records that you hold could be WRONG. I am sorry if you feel that I am getting annoyed, because I am, don't you think that your records could be wrong and what I was told by the Church Warden is correct. If everybody thinks that I am wrong, why don't they contact the Church to find out. Kongwak333

Jasper & Hannah HANCOCK

I have a copy of the original burial record for St Christopher's Church Lypsham and it clearly shows that both Jasper & Hannah HANCOCK were buried there as detailed in our transcripts. I would suggest that you were mistakenly mis-informed by your source at St Christopher Church.

JASPER AND ANN HANCOCK

Hello Pat, I wish it was that easy. You say that Hannah could be Jasper's wife. Jasper that married Hannah is Jasper and Ann's son. Both Jasper and Hannah are also buried in St. Christopher's Churchyard. You say look at the original register, but I don't think that is going to help me find where Jasper and Ann are buried, because if St. Christopher's Church says they are not buried there, then the original register is wrong. Please, try and explain this to me how can a Genealogy Site put information that now turns out to be wrong. Thank you again for your time. Kongwak333

Brynmelyn School
published by Pat Hase - 9 years 2 months 2 days ago.

As Paul has suggested there are several sites which mention Brynmelyn School - many are concerned with former students and this one about  Kassam Janmohamed  does have some interesting information about the school and quotes from a book written about the school by the daughter of the Headmaster, Henry.E. LANDON, who would have been there when your father was a pupil.

Incidentally the online catalogue of the Somerset Heritage Centre lists a booklet about the history of the school written by another headmaster, Francis A KNIGHT who was living at the school at the time of the 1891 census and that is available in a file of information about the school in Weston-super-Library.  Perhaps one of our volunteers on Saturday may have time to take a look at it for you?

You can also find references to the school in various newspapers online and street directories for Weston.  It was in the straight bit of Landemann Circus and the building which Paul has found is still there; opposite the juction with Coombe Road - see Google Street view!

It would probably be worth you joining our society as a full member because so many of your family members appear to have lived and died in this area. As a full member you have access to our transcriptions and could check for yourself - and maybe spot family connections.  As far as I can see there is a burial of a Jasper HANCOCK from Brean and also a burial of a Hannah HANCOCK, wife of Jasper.    Hannah could well be your Ann or Anna with the name written as it was said at the time.

All transcriptions, have possible errors and you should try to see original parish records if possible but transcriptions are invaluable as a starting point and can show how often people with the same name are in an area - there is also a burial of a child of Jasper and Ann HANCOCK at Lympsham and the burials of at least two other men with the name Jasper HANCOCK/HANDCOCK.  The Lympsham transcriptions on our site are a full transcription and in many cases even show cause of death.

The name PETHERAM also occurs many times in this area of Somerset with its many variants.

By the way, it is easier for others following this query if you put the surnames in upper case as I have done and use a Subject heading which is relevant to the content of the query.  When people are searching our site for a surname then they will find your comments and perhaps be able to add to your research.
