Percy COOK - Trombonist
published by Pat Hase - 9 years 2 months 13 days ago.

This is an interesting request for information.  I have a feeling that you have contacted us before and I think there was a letter in the Weston Mercury about a year ago about Percy COOK.  I don't know whether Percy COOK was a member of the Municipal Orchestra but he certainly features as the director of the Grand Pier Orchestra in 1946 and 47 - see the book, "The Grand Pier" by Sharon Poole. - Sharon may have further information - she can be contacted here.

There is also a newspaper account in the Wells Journal - Friday 08 March 1946 of a Concert Party from Weston-super-Mare organised by a Percy Cook (I'm assuming it is the same person) and given in aid of the Wells Cottage Hospital.

Percy Cook - Trombonist in Municipal Band c1936?
published by - 9 years 2 months 15 days ago.
Percy Cook was my trombone teacher whilst I was a Junior Student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama from 1970-1971. Later we became friends until his sudden death in September 1984. I'm hoping to write a biographical account of Percy's life as a professional musician. I do know that he was the Musical Director of the Grand Pier Orchestra at Weston-Super-Mare in the late 1940s and that he lived in Earlham Grove. In 1950 he joined the Scottish National Orchestra on 2nd trombone, latterly becoming Bass Trombonist until his retirement in the early 1970s. I know that his family are no longer in Somerset, because Percy's grandson has been in touch.

The transcripts for Brent Knoll (South Brent) are a complete copy of the orginal records.

Question on transcriptions
published by - 9 years 2 months 19 days ago.

Hi Pat - do the actual records have more than what we see on the transcriptions and if so how would I access these? The one for Eliza Webb is D/P brnt.k 2/1/2

Perhaps you might like to try Weston Library - I believe that they hold digital images of tithe maps for North Somerset and may be able to help you.  Their email address can be found on this page.

Tithe Maps can also be seen for the whole country on The Genealogist if you have a Diamond Subscription for it.
