Lawrence COOMBES
published by Pat Hase - 9 years 3 months 29 days ago.

It was not uncommon for people to go to Bristol to be married and the transcription available from the Bristol & Avon FHS on CD or as a download includes the statement that he was from Weston-super-Mare.

There is a baptism of a Lawrence COMBS on the 27th Jan 1782 at Portbury but if you look at our transcriptions you will see he has different parents from the one you quoted.

FamilySearch has a marriage of Lawrence COOMBES to Ann WEBBER at St James, Bristol on 26 December 1822.

Birth Records - Late Entry
published by David Court - 9 years 4 months 0 day ago.

Hello Pat, - how lovely to hear from you, and many thanks for your reply.

Ha Ha, - no for some reason, I didn't pick up the other Joan entry for Thornbury, - how strange!

I haven't found anything in the 1939 Register, and on all but one of the Passenger Lists, their home address was given as Imperial Hotel, Russell Square, London. the other address given on the 1926 journey was Pond House, Banwell.

Was it not the law to register all births? As an aside, the friend I am doing this for is one of a twin (girls), and interestingly, I have found 2 other sets of twin girls, that were not known about, and when I initially saw Patricia and Joan being late recorded as both on June qtr 1926, I thought I had found another set! It would seem not to be the case in that the girls were born at different times, according to the shipping schedules and lists, but I do therefore wonder as to how and why they were late registered as being born at the same time, - and 30 years later. Another part of the story is that Patricia & Joan attended Cheltenham Ladies College!

Thanks again Pat, - on another matter you may recall our very first meeting all those years ago, you kindly helped me with some steps in researching my mother's line 'Parratt', when at that time I was stuck on my grandfather! Since then, I have had an extremely exciting ride, tracing steps from Bath to Utah, and a while back wrote an article about some aspect of my 'Parratt' research which I thought might make interesting reading for you. Can I send a copy to you? I don't know if your e-mail address is available for me to send it as an attachment? You can contact me on davecourt@cpsoutlook.co.uk

All best wishes,

Dave

Hi David,  Just to confuse the issue - Have you seen this registration in the 4th Quarter of 1926?

Joan FENNING mother's maiden name NUTTYCOMBE Thornbury 6a 361.

As far as I know - late registration could also be caused by the need for certification for official purposes. Perhaps it was only Patricia who needed the certificate?   Have you found either of them on the 1939 Register or were they out of the country at that time?

Harden family mystery - Emily
published by - 9 years 4 months 4 days ago.

Thank you for your help Pat.  Unfortunately none of these George's have a brother John that I have found yet!  The Emily I already have in my tree, born at a similar time was a daughter of George Chappel Harden.

However I do have a George born in Mark in 1779, who had a brother John.  This John was married to  Ann & I believe Hannah can be another name for Ann, but Ann was born in 1771 making her too old to be Emily's mother?  Especially as there was another child born in 1834.

And I thought the name Harden would be an easy one to research as I hadn't come across it before!
