Hi Rachael. No, I'm not researching this family. But I transcribe for FreeReg so it was natural to use them to do a quick search.

Hello Dave

Many thanks indeed.   Are you researching the Atwells or just being very helpful?

We still have to complete the early transcripts for Christon but I see someone else has transcribed the date for the marriage of William Urch & Marget Hunt as 21 December 1559.

Hello Lynda:  My 3 x Great Grandfather is George Atwell, Warrener, born Churchill circa 1786.   He married Sarah Cox and they had five children (as far as I can tell):  George, Elizabeth, James, Joseph and Henry.   My line descends from their daughter Elizabeth so the surname changed immediately when she married Thomas Rayner.   Thomas was a Gardener and the family moved away from Somerset to Birmingham.

Thomas and Elizabeth's daughter, Louisa, married Alfred Charles Riddiford and they were the parents of my Grandmother, Edith Mary Riddiford.   Edith Mary married Bernard Court in 1900;  they had three daughters, the middle one being Edith Rita who married Charles Alfred Dickin and they were my parents.   A long journey from the Atwells of Somerset.

According to my research Elizabeth's younger brother Joseph married Ellen Adams and they had a son Joseph Rowles Atwell born 1855;  is he your husband's great grandfather?

I suppose that what we both want to know is who were George Atwell's parents?

Have discovered since posting that Eva also lost her brother Ernest Algenon Phillips on 21st November 1918 in WW1. No response from my Winsombe inquiry and having worked all the orphan's family stems and those of Eva's sibling through cannot find anyone with particular uniqueness in their names to try contacting them.
