THOMAS - orphans in Winscombe published by Pat Hase - 11 years 1 months 22 days ago. | | You could try the records of Axbridge Workhouse which can be seen in the Somerset Heritage Centre at Taunton - General Reference: DGax
It is possible that the THOMAS children may have been taken in and then fostered out. Unfortunately there is a gap between 1913 and 1928 in their Admission and Discharge Registers but the children might have been mentioned in other documents for example the Creed Registers so it might be worth an enquiry. Some of these later books may be closed as they contain information about people who may still be alive so a personal request is needed.

Reuben WHITE and Ann published by Pat Hase - 11 years 1 months 22 days ago. | | I'm glad that we were able to help. You mentioned that James & Anstance had 9 children - did they include a James who is being asked about on the Research Forum - perhaps you can help there!
I believe that Reuben WHITE married Ann HORWOOD at St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol on the17th April 1827. This is from the CD of marriage transcriptions obtainable from the Bristol & Avon FHS and it can also be consulted in Weston Library.

Charles WHITE published by - 11 years 1 months 22 days ago. | | Thank you very much, Joy!
I knew that Charles WHITE (my Great Grandfather) had died before 1891 as I had the census record for 1891 showing his wife, Eliza WHITE (nee NORTH) as a widow.
But I am amazed by your discovery of the sad fate of Charles WHITE in that accident at Ellesmere Port Bay. It is most definitely him, as I have records of him working as a 'foreman of carpenters' on the London and North Western Railway in 1874 - and, of course, it all ties in with the life and records of George WHITE, my Grandfather. I had not realised that Charles was still working in the Chester/Wirral area as late as 1890 and thought he might have been away from home, working in London - so without your help, I doubt I would have found any of that information, so thank you once again. If I might ask, how did you find that press report/newspaper 'cutting'? | |
WHITE family of Hutton published by - 11 years 1 months 22 days ago. | | Thank you very much, Pat!
In particular, I had not found the Locking marriage of James and 'Anty' PIM! Also, yes, surely, with both a Reuben and an 'Anstance' as parents, it seems very likely that Reuben PIM and Anstance KITCHING were my fourth great grandparents on the female side. So that is all new for me and thank you once again.
I have Reuben WHITE (my third great grandfather) and Samuel WHITE as two of nine children born to James and Anstance WHITE - one of whom was also called 'Anstance' and died as an infant in 1795. The father of that James was, I believe, the James WHITE (my fourth great grandfather on the WHITE side) who married Eleanor QUIRE at St Mary's, Hutton, on 6th Feb 1762. Reuben WHITE (my third great grandfather) appears to have married ‘Ann’, who was born in Bristol St Paul’s in about 1805 – I have so far been unable to find her surname or any marriage record.
