CommentsBleadon Church - Memorials published by - 11 years 3 months 28 days ago. | | Thank you Pat for that information, it made an interesting read. According to the research done by the Rector James Barnes Brearley in 1900, the Tutton family became prominent after the Dean's authority declined. Nathaniel Dean's daughter Frances married into the Tutton family. The Rector wrote of this after an excavation of the church yard where he found the headstone. The headstone was found face down under the earth and boulders had been placed on top presumably so it could not be found. The general consensus at the time was that there had been trickery involved regarding his estate and the fact that his burial is not recorded in the Parish register. I have yet to discover if Nathaniel left a will, perhaps not and that was how the deceit was carried out. If possible; I would very much like to get in touch with Brian Austin to seek any information he might help me with. | |
Marriage of Albert BURGESS to Emma KEEL published by - 11 years 3 months 29 days ago. | | http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/5788856
Hi Jasmin
I'm not sure if this helps you but there is an Australian connection in my family. William KEEL, the youngest brother of my 3x great-grandmother, Catherine KEEL married a Susan CRABB and emigrated with his family to Melbourne. William KEEL was born in Cleeve, Yatton (Somerset), bap. 19.9.1819. Their daughter, Emma Creyghton KEEL, married an Albert BURGESS son of George BURGESS of Cleeve, Yatton (see above link) in Melbourne.
Regards
Catherine

Ellen Fear published by - 11 years 3 months 30 days ago. | | Thank you Pat for you reply. I have seen the info relating to the Workhouse census. The third son was Wilfred Fear born in 1903.My Grandfather married Ellen in 1906 and moved to Pontypridd. l know Harold and Wilfred also went at some point but l`m not sure when. I can find no mention of Wilfred living with his mother and my Grandfather on the Pontypridd 1911 census. I have also searched the 1911 census for Axbridge area in case he was living with a relative.
My Grandfather was very fond of Wilfred and supported him until he became an adult. We often visited Wilfred and his family when we were children.
I can find no mention of Lionel after 1901.
Both brothers lived and brought up families in Pontypridd until their deaths.
Any info you might have would be great

Bleadon Church - Memorials published by Pat Hase - 11 years 3 months 30 days ago. | | According to the MIs published on Findmypast by the Somerset & Dorset FHS there are two memorials at Bleadon to these people one of which is a floor Slab in the Chancel of the Church and also includes mention of a George YEO.
I remember that in an early edition of the BBC's Who do You Think You Are? Laurence Llewellyn Bowen was taken to Bleadon Church to view this slab as he was related to a George YEO. You can read about it here - you need to go to the 2nd page under Lost Inheritance and you will also see the part played in this research by our Life Member, Brian Austin.

Ellen FEAR published by Pat Hase - 11 years 4 months 1 day ago. | | I'm not related to Ellen FEAR but I have come across her and her family during my research into Axbridge Workhouse.
Sarah, her mother, was born in the Workhouse in 1844, the d/o Elizabeth FEAR, (daughter of James & Sarah FEAR of Lympsham). Elizabeth also had two sons who were born in the Workhouse but she never married.
Sarah didn't marry either and had 5 children - all I think born in the Workhouse - 2 boys and the 3 girls, (Alice, Elizabeth & Ellen) who were with her in 1881. Of the girls, Alice had a daughter, Lucy, in the Workhouse in 1890 and I've found two sons for Ellen also born in the Workhouse, Harold George in 1895 and Lionel Cecil (later refered to as Cecil) in 1897 - they were both with her in the Workhouse in 1901. Who was the third son and what happened to them after Ellen married?
Members of the FEAR family of Lympsham were to be found in the Workhouse on numerous ocassions but they survived! I'm not sure how much you already know but I can give you the actual dates for the christenings in the Workhouse for most of the children.

Jarvis-Ham Marriage published by - 11 years 4 months 3 days ago. | | A search of the GRO reveals:
Henry Ham marrying in the June Qtr of 1858.
Records on the page included:
Sarah Ducket - Henry Ham - Benjamin Higgs & Caroline Jervis
The entry for Caroline corresponds to that of Henry for the Axbridge District Vol 5c Page 1065
The marriage cert would give the parish where they married.
