Is Richard Porter related to John Porter, a mason living with his wife and family in Hutton in 1841?

Death of General Sir William Baker, KCB
published by - 11 years 6 months 10 days ago.

This as well as a further obituary was in the Bristol Mercury and Daily Post of Tuesday 20 December 1881:
Death of General Sir William Baker, KCB -
On Friday last the death of the above baronet took place very suddenly at his residence, Banwell Castle. The deceased gentleman was in his usual health up to lunch time on Friday. At that hour he retired to his room. His protracted absence occasioned Lady Baker some anxiety, and she went to his apartment to ascertain the cause. When she reached his room, she found Sir William prostrate, in an unconscious condition. Dr Bisdee was immediately summoned, and arrived at the Castle at 1:15 PM He found the deceased gentleman suffering from cerebral effusion and apoplexy. From the first he gave no hopes. at 6:30 the medical man noticed a great cxhange for the worse. His patient gradually grew worse, and expired very calmly at 8:45....

As his age was given as 72 when he died it is likely that he died of natural causes.  If there had been an inquest or a post mortum I'm sure there would have been an account of it in the local press.  You might try contacting Roy Rice who is a member of this society but is also very much involved in the history of Banwell and may well be able to help you.

As I live in Claverham  I was interested to read all the details of Mary Ann Taylor who became Mary Ann Knowles.  I am not sure where Bob lives but there is still a Knowles family in Claverham.

Caroline Urch

Hi Sue and Keith I have had difficulty with the dates you mentioned as well. I have found a Caroline Urch with a sister Sarah who is the daughter of John and Hannah but may be a different person. I will keep searching and keep you posted. Caroline Urch was born in 1868 in Bathurst, New South Wales - Bathurst being an inland city about 3 hrs drive from Sydney. Caroline married at the young age of 17 to William Tate in 1885 in Sydney, NSW. Caroline and William had 4 children - Ruby M in 1887, Ethel E in 1889, Maria in 1890 and William J in 1891. I can find 6 brothers and sisters - Hannah M born 1866, Sarah E born 1875, Willie Edwin born 1870, Henry Francis born 1872, Mary Ellen born 1873, Ethel Rosalind born 1879 - all appear to be born in Bathurst. Caroline died 6 November 1953 aged 85, she is buried at one of Sydney's historical and still operational cemetries called Waverley Cemetery in Bronte, Sydney. Caroline died in Hurstville, a suburb of Sydney and it appears that the family lived in those southern suburbs of Sydney. Certificates are available and I would be happy to apply and send on, should you wish. Hope this assists some and as stated will keep going with your dates. Kathleen
