CommentsJONES of WsM published by - 11 years 7 months 18 days ago. | | I am the very same Sarah lol :)
Been doing this dam tree for 13 years now - still missing bits and I can't find them - someone out here has the info - but who?? :)
I have put my tree up on ancestry.co.uk if you would like to take a peek (seeing as we do share some bits) :)
I may need some help to fill in some more missing bits, which sounds like you might well have :)
William and Jane married in 1847. It is the same line that you have - exciting times. Care to share?? | |
Charles CLAPP and Mary Ann COLES published by Pat Hase - 11 years 7 months 19 days ago. | | The originals are (as you say) in the Bristol Record Office but if the Church of the LDS has filmed the entries you might be able to see them at your local LDS Family History Centre.
Just enter your home town into the search space on this site and you should find details of the nearest centre; its address and opening hours. For a relatively small sum you should be able to order a film of the church records or Bishops Transcripts) for you to see the original entry. In 1825 you should have witnesses and in a few cases some additional information about the couple in question - but this is not common.
Good luck with your research.

Charles CLAPP and Mary Ann COLES published by - 11 years 7 months 19 days ago. | | Thanks, Pat. I was so sure I had searched for all my ancestors from Somerset and Gloucestershire on the Bristol & Avon FHS CDs, all of which I have purchased over the years, that I didn't think to look again after discovering Mary Ann's surname. I must be losing the plot. So sorry.
My mother even told me that someone in her family had married at St Mary Redcliffe, but I thought she was talking about her grandparents, John Clapp and Mary Ann Shortman, and so assumed she had got it wrong when I discovered that they were married in Newport. Instead it was her great grandparents!
Do you know if there is any way I can get to see the original entry, or discover whether it contains any additional information, without traveling nearly 200 miles to Bristol?
Thanks again for your help.

Charles CLAPP and Mary Ann COLES published by Pat Hase - 11 years 7 months 20 days ago. | | When you are looking for a missing marriage for people who lived in this part of Somerset there is always a chance that it took place in Bristol.
The Bristol & Avon FHS have produced CDs of transcriptions of baptisms, marriages and burials which took place in the Bristol Diocese from 1754 until 1837 and these can be consulted in Weston-super-Mare Library.
As with any transcriptions you should always check the original but as a starter for you there is a marriage of a bachelor, Charles CLAPP with a spinster, Mary Ann COLES which took place (by banns) on the 6th Oct 1825 at St Mary Redcliffe, in Bristol. The original entry should show the names of witnesses.

Minnie LOVELL published by daveerasmus - 11 years 7 months 20 days ago. | | There was a Minnie LOVELL (born c1873 in Bleadon) living in Bleadon in 1881 with parents William and Martha and siblings Harry, Ellen and Edward (aged 12, 10 and 5).
And there was an Albert JONES (born c1866 in W-s-M) living in W-s-M in 1881 with parents William and Jane and siblings Hannah 27, James 21, Henrietta 17, Charles 13 and Arthur 11.
Might these be yours?
Albert JONES married Minnie Lovell in 1891. The marriage was registered in Axbridge Registration District in Q3 Volume 5c page 823. If you obtain the marriage certificate this should confirm their fathers' names.

JONES of WSM published by tonysperrin - 11 years 7 months 20 days ago. | | Hi Sarah
Are you the Sarah who put a message on Ancestry back in 2001 regarding the JONES of WSM. I ask because that message gave me information about an ancestor of mine?
Jane Sperrin (my ancestor) married William Jones in April 1837. William was one of eight children, father Richard who married Mary Gould. Richards father was James Jones who married Ann Muggleworth.
Looking forward to hearing from you and hopeful we can share information if we are researching the same Jones.
Pat Hase has put some interesting information in the new edition of Buckets and Spades regarding the 1801 plan of WSM. There is a James Jones living in the town and also Mugglesworths. The map shows where the families lived.
Best regards
Tony (Sperrin)
