Alfred Sercombe GRIFFIN

Today I tried to email the original enquirer but unfortunately the email address no longer functions, which is such a shame.  I have a note that I had previously been in contact with him in 2008.

Alfred Sercombe GRIFFIN seems such an interesting person.  He apparently lived and worked for a while at 51 Upper Church Road, Weston as a Chemist - He was certainly there in 1917.

I seem to remember that he retired to Winscombe and was buried at Sidcot being deeply involved with the Society of Friends.

Just to add to Pat's comments, according to the Milton Road Register of Burials, Margaret was living at 5 Langford Road, Weston Super Mare at the time of her death.

Do you have her death certificate?  That may help with cause and place of death.

She was buried in Weston Cemetery in Plot O 157 on the 14th April 1978 but there is no memorial on the grave.

There might be an obit in a local newspaper - these are not online but can be seen on film in Weston-super-Mare Library. The local paper was only published weekly so as the funeral date is known you may get some assistance from the library - or if not perhaps one of our volunteers might look at the newspapers for you the next time we are running a Help Session.

I can see from FreeBMD that her mother's maiden name was KELLEKER but I can't see a marriage between a WEST and a KELLEKER anywhere - or more children with the surname WEST and mother with the surname KELLEKER or KELLEGHER.

Alfred Sercombe Griffin was my maternal grandfather. I have a lot of his publications and several photos. My cousin has a full archive of him which his father (my uncle) compiled, including many photographs. He led  a remarkable life abroad as a locum pharmacist, largely in India and Burma.

I would be v interested in the publication you mention, doubtless now in print, since your initial enquiry was nearly two years ago.

Alfred Sercombe Griffin was my maternal grandfather. I have lots of his writings and several photographs of him. My cousin has a large archive on him, the fruits of research done by my uncle (ASG's son).

I would much appreciate further deatils of the publication proposed (probably now published?) about scouting literature.
