Dorothy M H Johnson
published by - 11 years 11 months 12 days ago.

I am now convinced that the Dorothy M H JOHNSON who married Gerald Sheehan in Carlisle in 1934 is not the Dorothy Millicent Howard JOHNSON who is one of the subjects of this thread but, in fact, is Dorothy Mary Halliday JOHNSON, born in Carlisle in 3Q 1906.  That ties in with the probate report.  It also seems pretty clear that the three children I mentioned up thread are the products of this marriage.  All that can only really be proved one way or the other, by purchase of a lot of certificates.

That does, of course, mean that we are back to square one.  I've had a good look to see if I can find out what happened to Dorothy Millicent Howard.  There are 3 census entries; 1891 (visiting near Blackpool), 1901 (with her family in Cornwall) and in 1911 as a nurse in Plymouth.  There are numerous records for Dorothy or Dorothy M after that but the only other record of Dorothy M H I could find is of a marriage to one Harry Hunt in Manchester in 1941.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help - I'll keep looking though.

Our Dorothy is Millicent Howard, the one on the probate for the death you found is Dorothy Mary Halliday .

i seem to remember finding 2 marriages to Gerald Sheehan with the exact same initials

Watts family Worle

Thank You Heather and Pat, yes I got the other baptism from familysearch, and any more baptisms from the Weston area would be nice, but it looks like they were probably using Wesleyan chapels for the rest. .. We have seen the Otton tree too.  I think the main mystery for Watts researchers in Australia is what happened to John Watts born 1833 .. but that's something to sort out here. .. Cheers, Wayne

Eastfield Park
published by Pat Hase - 11 years 11 months 14 days ago.

I've just found my copy of a Weston-super-Mare Local History Trail published in 1978 - "No 4, The Boulevard and Montpelier" in which it describes Eastfield Park as "another of the town's private housing estates, built across the road from the Montpelier Estate in the 1870s, on the site of part of the East Field, one of the old common fields of village Weston.  The size and prominence of the open space, behind which the houses are glimpsed in discreet retirement, makes this one of the most rural and tranquil of Weston's estates and the background of the Weston woods above the houses adds the finishing touch.  Most of the houses have carriage drives, and ample room for servants in the back premises.

Henry BUTT, the first Mayor of Weston (in 1937) lived in 1 Eastfield Park on the corner of Arundell Road and your relations were at the other end.  There were just 10 houses in Eastfield Park all overlooking the private Park which separated them from Bristol Road.

9 Eastfield Park

Dear Bev

I have been into W-S-M library and found all the residents/owners of 9 Eastfield Park. The earliest is 1877 with your Isabella Murray.

In 1912 there is a new person there - J L Dickenson and the house is named Trelynwydd along with its number.

Various people have lived there over the years. Do you want all their names and dates? Or are you looking for anyone in particular? Let me know – I have made a note of them all just in case.

The Somerset Record Office has the planning application for that address. Go to Online Catalogue and in ‘any text’ key in Denning as she was there from 1943 until 1964 and you will see a planning application for 1942 for the house to be converted into flats.

Janet Sweeting

Gerald SHEEHAN
published by Pat Hase - 11 years 11 months 14 days ago.

FreeBMD shows that the marriage of a Gerald SHEEHAN to a Dorothy M H JOHNSON was registered in the Sept qrt of 1934 in the registration District of Carlisle.  Why do you think that the probate is a for a different Gerald SHEEHAN?
