Eugene MORGAN son of John SHEEHY

Hello Priscilla,

Have you got an Arthur MORGAN born c1845?  He also gives his place of birth as Ramsgate.  In 1891 he and wife Elizabeth are in London.  They have a son Eugene born c1881 in Canterbury, Kent.  There is also an Arthur MORGAN born Ramsgate c1845 in Sussex in 1871 who is a soldier.

In 1861 Arthur is with his parents in Ramsgate.  Their names are Eliza (born c1810 Croydon, Surrey) and John MORGAN born c1799 in Ireland.  John is a Mariner.

Most interestingly though, I think I have found Arthur and his family lodging in Bungay, Suffolk in 1881.  As they are lodgers it doesn't give their relationships to each other but Arthur and Elizabeth are both born Ramsgate and married.  They have children with them including a 4 month old Eugene born in Canterbury and their surname is SHEEHY.  Arthur M. SHEEHY's occupation is given as "Traveller".

I'm not sure how this will help you but I have found a newspaper account in the Reading Mercury 1st Jan 1881 of an Eugene Morgan O'Sheehy being had up in front of the Magistrates for begging on Christmas Day! Is this him again?  Have you got the death certificate for John Morgan SHEEHY in 1869 - were there any clues on that?

You must take full marks for perseverence!

Can anyone help Priscilla? - she has been trying all avenues to find first of all the birth of her grandfather - he was Arthur Patrick MORGAN  - On the 1911 census he is to be found lodging at the Volunteer Inn in Worthing in Sussex giving his birth place as Notting Hill, London in about 1881. He is with his wife Caroline and baby daughter Margaret - her age in not known on the census but her birth was registered in Alverstoke in Hampshire in 1909 under both the surname MORGAN as well as PRESTON her mother's maiden name. Her parents were married in 1910 in Croydon, when he gave his father's name as Eugene MORGAN.

Arthur and Caroline eventually had 9 children mostly in Southampton or the Isle of Wight - that is not the question.  Priscilla needs to find Arthur's and his father's births.  Eugene MORGAN gives his birthplace as Ramsgate, Kent in about 1835 or thereabouts - and when he married he gave his father's name as John SHEEHY! - we've been going around in circles - any new suggestions for research would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Thanks. This is really helpful and fills in lots of gaps in my information. I have a couple of questions from the information you have given.

Was Mary Jane the daughter or Grand-daughter of Henry Chaplin and Sarah Pitts? You mention Henry Chaplin and Sarah Pitts as her Grand-parents, but she seems to be in the list of their children.

Was her date of birth 4.7.1865 or 6.7.1867 since you seem to have given both as her date of birth?

Your information also raises an intriguing question about my Grandmother's side of my family. My Grandmother, Gladys May Ball (nee Johns) was the daughter of an Albert Tom Johns (b 1865) and an Emma Maria Pitts who appears to have been born in 1866 in Wick St Lawrence. I wonder if this Emma Maria was related to the Sarah Pitts you mention as Mary Jane's mother?
