William Gadd published by - 12 years 3 months 8 days ago. | | There appear to be 2 William Gadds born in that area around that time. Both are registered in the Williton Registration District which includes Luxborough. They are:-
William Gadd Registered 1Q1843 GRO Volume 10 Page 542
William Gadd Registered 2Q1849 GRO Volume 10 Page 541
Either he was born in 1843, registered then and not baptised until 1846, or born before 1846, baptised then and not registered until 1849.
The other fly in the ointment is that there is a William Gadd registered as dying in the same District in 1Q1848, GRO Volume 10 Page 440. Unfortunately there is no record of the age at death there. This could mean that the death relates to the earlier birth and the survivor was the latter birth.
I hope this helps.
Regards, Nic

William GADD published by daveerasmus - 12 years 3 months 9 days ago. | | It is possible that his birth was registered late(r) for whatever reason. Have you looked at the William GADD whose birth was registered in Williton in 1849?

FORD and APPLEBY published by Pat Hase - 12 years 3 months 20 days ago. | | Glad that we have been of help and it's great to hear that it might lead to something really interesting - Will we have an article about it all in Buckets & Spades?

Thanks Pat/Graham published by - 12 years 3 months 20 days ago. | | That's helped tremendously. A line of research that's going to keep me occupied for some time I think.
I have a subscription with thegenealogist and so have downloaded the will of Lancelot Appleby which was quite exciting. Turns out he is Catherines brother and wrote the will at the Cape of Good Hope while returning from a privateering expedition virtually around the world with William Dampier aboard either the Duke or Duchess. This is the same expedition where they picked up Alexander Selkirk who had been marooned and who Daniel Defoe based Robinson Crusoe on. Lancelot even leaves Alexander Selkirk something in his will.
Thanks again that's given me a lot to go on.
