William PIMM - Postman at Worle
published by Pat Hase - 12 years 5 months 14 days ago.

Are you related to the Worle Postman, William PIMM?

There is this account of his inquest in the Bristol Mercury of Saturday 21 January 1854

Jan.17 at Kewstoke, [Inquest] on the body of William Pimm, the Worle and Weston postman, aged 46.

The deceased drove a dog in a small cart, and, on the night of Saturday, the 14th, stopped at the Masons' Arms at Milton and drank some beer, and was thoughtless enough to give his dog three glasses, and left about ten past nine, not much the worse for liquor, but in ten minutes was found dead by the side of the road, within sixty yards of the house he had previously left.  It is conjectured that he had driven down the hill, where the road was in a dangerous state, and that the vehicle in which he was riding had upset, by coming into contact with a bank of earth.  Mr Hardwick, a surgeon, had examined the body and gave it as his opinion to the jury that the neck had been dislocated and that the base of the skull was fractured.  Verdict "Found Dead".

This is thought to have happened going down Baytree Road not far from what is now the Windsor Castle Public House.  Does anyone know if it was ever called the Masons' Arms?

Sarah Pimm possibly born in Mark circa 1730
published by - 12 years 5 months 15 days ago.

Hi,

I gather you are interested in the surname of Pimm, I have a one name study of my surname 'Urch' and one of my interest's is a Samuel Urch who married Sarah Pimm in Mark on the 30 June 1755.

I will never know Samuel Urch's birth or baptism because he was born of an Anabaptist's family and therefore was never baptised, so no record exists.

I do know he had other siblings including a Richard Urch who married a Hannah Nuttycombe and a Thomas Urch who married Sarah maiden name unknown and two sisters but have not yet identified his wife Sarah Pimm.

Do you know of her.

Anne Reynolds HANHAM & Charles Edward HANHAM
published by Pat Hase - 12 years 5 months 16 days ago.

Unfortunately this doesn't answer your question about where they were buried but it does give some additional information such as addresses.  Dave Tyler also found this for you

Weston Mercury July 21th 1945

HANHAM, Charles Edward died July 15th aged 70, dearly loved husband of Annie Hanham, 4 Windsor Terrace, Baytree Road, Weston-super-Mare

and

Weston Mercury July 4th 1969

HANHAM, Annie Reynolds (late of Baytree Road) passed peacefully away in a nursing home on July 2nd, aged 96 years. Fondly remembered by all he nieces and nephews

I would think that both of the HANHAMs were probably cremated at Arnos Vale.

The local newspapers, which are not online, are a fantastic resource for family history, especially, as in this case, when an actual date is known.  Not being indexed, a blanket search can take a very long time because you have to be aware that you will always find something of interest even if it is only an advertisement!

Dave Tyler, one of our volunteers at the Library found this entry for you on Saturday

MOORE, Emily Eliza passed peacefully away at "Crossways" 8, St Joseph's Road on February 21st, aged 84 years dearly loved sister of Annie R Hanham late of Baytree Road.  Cremated at Arnos Vale

Seems to answer your query.

I have recently received an email about Eastern House from the nephew of an ex-pupil (she's now aged 97) who was at the school at this time.  He offered to give more information but unfortunately his email address is not working.  Please could he contact me again.  Thank you.

STOKES of Wraxall
published by Pat Hase - 12 years 5 months 27 days ago.

Since I posted this request for help - Graham has transcribed the burials in Wraxall and I can now find the burials of both Joseph & Rachel STOKES.  Joseph on the 15th June 1834 aged 84 and Rachel on the 19th July 1840 aged 86.  Thank you Graham!

I have also found (on FreeREG) some more christenings of children for Joseph and Rachel STOKES in Clapton in Gordano to fill the early gap.  I am now of the opinion that the entry in the Wraxall Baptisms for the christening of Samuel s/o Joseph & Martha STOKES in 1793 is probably an error on the original document and that no person called Martha ever existed - the name should have been Rachel, especially as there was another christening of a son to Joseph & Rachel in Wraxall in 1795 after my Samuel was born.

It just shows that it pays to revisit the transcriptions from time to time to see what has been added! - As I first found this christening about 20 years ago I think I can now progress to research Rachel COX as my 4 x great grandmother.

Any suggestions about her?  Rachel COX born about 1754 (if her age at burial is correct) married 1778 in Easton in Gordano and now died in 1840 in Wraxall. Thank you.
