CommentsJay published by - 12 years 9 months 7 days ago. | | Kathy, Was excited to hear from you also. I am researching the Jay family for my wife, Lesley, who is the great grand daughter of Elizabeth and Robert. Her grandfather was William (the 1st born child) who emigrated to New Zealand. I am new at this so am plodding along. We would be interested in any information you have. We can provide details of William's descendants but you probably know more than we do about the ancestors. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Randall and Lesley
Elizabeth Jay published by - 12 years 9 months 8 days ago. | | I saw your response to a query about Elizabeth Jay on the website and wonder if you have any connection with the family. She is my great grandmother and I would be happy to share information I have about the family and to receive any information you have about the family or the Mineral water business in Weston. Many thanks, Kathy Howat
William & Olive Andres published by - 12 years 9 months 13 days ago. | | William Pagington Andres was born Dec 1/4 1881 & Olive Amelia Fear was born Sept 1/4 1877. They married Sept 1/4 1902 in Reg Dist. Axbridge - Vol no. 5c - Page 908. This would make Olive 4 years older than William although your article shows them the same age of 24. It is possible that it is the same couple as they would have been newly married in 1903 & a lot of people were very poor at that time & had trouble just sustaining themselves. Valerie

Female Bankrupt published by daveerasmus - 12 years 9 months 20 days ago. | | There was a case in the early 1860's which established that a married man could deny liability for the debts of his wife if he could show that those debts were not incurred in the purchase of "necessaries" and that he had forbidden her to pledge his credit - see Jolly v. Rees. Dave Erasmus
John Stephens published by - 12 years 9 months 20 days ago. | | I don't know for definite that John Stephens from Weston super Mare was my great grandfather, but my great grandfather joined the army after serving as an apprentice coachmaker when living in Walcot, Bath. I have researched every other John in Cheltenham,. Bath and Weston. My thougths are that if he was living with a family then somebody was paying for this. Was his mother still alive in 1861. Is John illegitimate - probably. Do you know if workhouse records are available and if so where. Thanks for your help.
