CommentsJohn OFFER marriage published by Pat Hase - 12 years 9 months 24 days ago. | | Findmypast has many transcriptions of parish records - they include those transcribed by the Somerset & Dorset FHS for marriages in those counties mainly pre 1837. The transcription does not include the names of witnesses. I agree there is a large gap in the children and I did look to see if there was another suitable marriage. The Bristol & Avon FHS publish transcriptions of marriages in North Somerset on CD for the same period 1754-1837 and that includes 2 marriages for a John OFFER but neither to an Elizabeth or Betty. As some of my family from the Axbridge area married in Bristol I also tried Bristol & Avon FHS's CD for marriages in the Bristol Diocese for 1754-1812 but again drew a blank, with the exception of one in Westerleigh in 1790 which I thought unlikely! This all assumed that they married in Somerset or thereabouts. John & his wife could have moved here from another part of the country in the early 1800s.
William Andres published by - 12 years 9 months 24 days ago. | | I am not related to the Andres family but am compiling a Family Tree for an elderly descendant of William Andres who emigrated from Western-super-mare to Western Australia in 1968. His name is Raymond Cecil Andres b. Feb 1932 married to Margaret Thelma June (nee White). His father was Ralph Andres b. 1904, whose father was William Andres. I always thought it was the William born in 1867 but have now been corrected to William (Paggington) Andres born 1881. William Andres b.1843 married Elizabeth Paggington in Mar 1/4 1891 in Barton Regis & it appears that the last 3 children were born out of wedlock but became Andres after the marriage. William Andres b.1881 also appears to be the child that William Andres b 1843 & Elizabeth Paggington were jailed for trying to abandon a child in 1882. Valerie
William Andres published by - 12 years 9 months 24 days ago. | | I am compiling a Family Tree for an elderly couple of friends who emigrated from Western-super-mare to Western Australia in 1968. They are Margaret Thelma June (nee White) & Raymond Cecil Andres. Ray was born in Feb 1932 in Axbridge,Somerset. His father was Ralph Andres b. 1904 in Clifton,Bristol & his Grandfather was William Andres & his Grandmother was Olive Amelia Fear. I always thought his Grandfather was the William Andres b.1867 but now have been corrected to William Andres b. 1881. I would appreciate any clarification of these records. Valerie Cooper
Recording Studio in WsM in 1950s published by Pat Hase - 12 years 9 months 24 days ago. | | I have put out some feelers in the musical circles of Weston but have not had any leads yet. A letter to the local newspaper, the Weston Mercury, might prove fruitful. Click here to contact it. However, I do know that there was a Frank [Francis] JARMANY who lived in Axbridge - He died in 2005, and was very interested in the history of Axbridge. If this was the same man, using FreeBMD I can see that his birth was registered in Blackburn, Lancs in 1921 but that he married in Weston-super-Mare in 1943 and had two daughters. He was the Clerk to the Axbridge Trust and this is their website - someone connected to it may be able to put you in contact with his family who might know the other members of the quartet.
Sarah Elizabeth Starr published by bevercombe - 12 years 9 months 25 days ago. | | Hello Graham Thank you so much for that information. I tried so many different spellings & names eg Sarah, Sally, Matthews, Mathews, Mathewes & also Matheus but never thought of Lizzie as she was always referred to Aunt Sarah. Yes, her father was Daniel Robert Matthews. Many thanks for taking the time to look up this much sought-after information for me. Regards Lesley Bevercombe
Sarah Elizabeth Starr published by bevercombe - 12 years 9 months 25 days ago. | | Hello Pat Thank you very much for taking the trouble to look - we could be on to a winner here! I think that I have also found them in the 1901 census under Tom & Lizzie Star (with one R). Regards Lesley
