CommentsMaria JOHNSTON published by Pat Hase - 13 years 1 months 29 days ago. | | That's interesting - as the newspaper entry in the Gloucester Citizen - Thursday 5th May 1887 is as follows: MARRIAGES. Gibson—Johnston—April 26, at the Baptist Chapel, Fairford, by the Rev. R. W. Ayres, Frederick Gibbs, late of the Bull Hotel, Fairford, to Maria Johnston, only daughter of Robert Hardcastle Johnston, of the Royal George Hotel, Birdlip. There is an error in this entry in that the groom was actually Frederick GIBBS not GIBSON but according to the 1891 census - by which time Maria was a widow, Frederick GIBBS having died in 1890, she was born in Westmeath, Ireland in about 1841. This suggests to me that she was a daughter of Robert Hardcastle JOHNSTON probably by a first wife. I realise that on the earlier censuses he says he's unmarried, but........ When did he marry Annie? Although Robert is in Gloucestershire in 1851 - Maria first appears in this country in 1861. This is a puzzle which may be difficult to solve. I expect you know that Annie Elizabeth JOHNSTON, Henry's widow was also buried in Weston Cemetery in 1943. No sign of a Kate JOHNSTON though.
Kewstoke Convalescent Home published by - 13 years 1 months 29 days ago. | | I had a great aunt who died there in the late 1930s. I am not sure of her married name ?Fido, her maiden name was Harris. I am unable to visit Kewstoke to look at any records.
Maria Johnston published by - 13 years 1 months 29 days ago. | | Thank you for the information, Maria is not a relativer, as he had 3 sons no daughters. Roberts eldest son Alfred died in Gloucester, but his wife Kate lived in Weston-super-Mare as she loved it so much having originally been in service in the Johnston household, I understand that she eventually went to live with a family named Stark...I would like to know where she is buried, there is a family tomb containing Robert,Annie, and their son Henry. in the main cemetry in Weston. Thank you J

John LINTERN buried at Blagdon in 1815 published by Pat Hase - 13 years 2 months 1 day ago. | | I know it's a bit of a long shot but I do know there were LINTERNS in Bath at about that time. It might be worth looking a little further away for his birth. Was Burrington Ann's home parish? There is also always the possibility that the age is not correct on the burial register - Have you seen the original? 3s, 5s & 8s are notorious for being difficult to read. Good luck with this one!
Kewstoke Convalescent Home published by Pat Hase - 13 years 2 months 1 day ago. | | Do take a look at the web site for Kewstoke Village Local History. At an exhibition about the history of Kewstoke put on last year there was a display about this Convalescent Home. If you contact Sue Ryall I'm sure that she will be able to help with more information.
