Watts/Gardiner family Bristol
published by - 13 years 2 months 16 days ago.

I have a Great-Uncle FREDERICK THOMAS JAMES GARDINER who married ETHELINDA WATTS of Kewstoke/Worle on 25th May 1864. They had 3 children namely Ethelinda, Frederick and Reginald.  The family story goes that husband Frederick was killed in the BOER WAR which I have yet to be confirmed.  Is this any relative connected to you?

Interest in Sparey Families Congrebury-Spotted Horse Inn
published by Graham Payne - 13 years 3 months 5 days ago.

I understand that the Spotted Horse Inn was situated on Brinsea Road opposite Ticknells and was demolished about 1999 to make way for a housing development.

I am hoping to obtain a photograph which I will forward to you.

Graham,

TUTT, BATTLE & VICKARY
published by Pat Hase - 13 years 3 months 14 days ago.

Our transcriptions of parish records which are available online (for a very modest annual membership fee!) give the christening of William TUTT in Winscombe and the christening of his children in Puxton - William & Sarah actually had three children but one died and was buried there - also in our transcripts.

I have also replied directly to you with some other information.

Chamberlain Memorials Worle
published by DebbieD - 13 years 3 months 21 days ago.

Hi Graham

Thanks for letting me know about these.  There is a submitted entry for Cornelius's death on the LDS site showing as 1836 too.  I have the death certificate so I know his death was definitely registered 13 Oct 1837 from that.  Even shows his time of death as 3 O'clock pm on the 8 Oct 1837!  Cornelius' infant son Joseph was buried in Worle in 1836 so wonder if that led to a mistake?

Good to see Samuel's memorial too.  I have him as a Footman at Siston Court in 1851 and nothing after that.

Kezia CHAMBERLAIN (daughter of Cornelius) married John CURRY and they are on there too.

Also great to see my 3xg grandfather Frederick William STABBINS on there who died in 1922 at the age of 106.   Two of his daughters married two of John and Kezia CURRY's sons!

Debbie

Chamberlain Memorials Worle

Hi Debbie

I have just uploaded to the transcript section the alphabetical listings of memorials inside and outside St Martin's Church Worle. There are 6 Chamberlain entries, 5 of which appear to be related to Cornelius and his family which might be of interest to you. My only concern is that our transcript gives Cornelius death as 1836 and not 1837.

The DARRAND - CHAMBERLAIN family of Lincolnshire and Somerset
published by DebbieD - 13 years 3 months 22 days ago.

Cornelius DARRAND was baptised at Haxey, Lincolnshire in 1794 the illegitimate son of Kezia DARRAND.  In 1796 Kezia married William CHAMBERLAIN.  Their daughter Mary was baptised in Epworth, Lincs. in 1797.

In 1815 Cornelius CHAMBERLAIN married Fanny DAY in Shipham, Som.  The witnesses were Mary CHAMBERLAIN and Joseph DAY.  Cornelius and Fanny had at least 8 children baptized in Shipham and Worle between 1816 and 1836.  Their youngest Joseph was buried in Worle aged 6 weeks old in 1836.

Cornelius died in Shipham 8 Oct 1837 aged 42.  Fanny was living in Worle in 1841.  Their daughter Sarah (baptised in Worle in 1830) appears in Epworth in 1841 (born 'out of county and then Worle 1851 onwards).  Sarah CHAMBERLAIN is the 'Niece' of Cornelius CHAMBERLAIN IN 1851.

Sarah married John STANDRING in 1857 as Sarah Chamberlain DARRAND.

There is at least one William CHAMBERLAIN in Shipham around this time. One is said to be the father of Ann LOCK's son William in 1816. A William CHAMBERLAYNE was also buried in Shipham in 1835 aged 59.

I am now hoping to discover what happened to Kezia Darrand CHAMBERLAIN, how exactly 'Uncle' Cornelius was related to the family and whether the CHAMBERLAINS originated in Somerset, Lincolnshire or elsewhere.
