Keedwells

Hi, Many thanks for your post, yes, I think that  Anthony Keedwell was my GGG grandfather who married Rachel Vowles. It has taken a time to sort the family out, but I think I may have cracked it now. Please contact me so that we can compare some finding to see if  it matches.

Regards

Burlington Street
published by Pat Hase - 9 years 6 months 23 days ago.

House numbers were changed in about 1908/9 for some of the roads in Weston including Burlington Street which runs from Alfred Street to Hopkins Street crossing Orchard Street. For example in 1901 Robert PAYNE is listed at No 13 but in 1911 his house is No 11 - this is the Clara's Cottage of Weston Museum.

But I think No 1 remained the same.  I believe No 1 was on the south side of Burlington Street near to its junction with Alfred Street.  I note that on the 1871 Census a Joseph TUTTON was living at 1 Burlington Street and the next entries are for Poplar Place. Poplar Place is a small cul-de-sac off Burlington Street, next to the old Chapel.

In 1874 planning permission was granted for a cottage near Burlington Street Chapel  – see Somerset Heritage Centre Online catalogue.  Reference  - DBwsm/24/2/138

These planning documents for buildings in Weston-super-Mare are very interesting and usually include plans of the area involved so it might be useful to visit the Somerset Heritage Centre or if you live locally look out for the next visit of the North Somerset Archivist to Weston Library.

Thank you, Pat, for taking the time to answer my questions about possible parents of my great-great grandmother, ANN HURST.  I will pursue the possiblity of William Ford Harse and Ann Day Walker, as you have suggested.  Wishing you a Merry Christmas,

Carol Fincham

KEEDWELL

One of my great grandmothers was a KEEDWELL. I have traced her line back to Anthony KEEDWELL who married Rachel VOWLES in Barrow Gurney in 1720. Anything I can help with?

Of course - that's fine.  Regarding your photographs of the grave stones - could we publish them on this site under Milton Road Cemetery?
