JONES Family, Long Ashton published by Pat Hase - 12 years 2 months 0 day ago. | | As I have a great grandfather called David JONES (no relation to you) I know that anyone researching JONES needs all the help they can get !
Am I correct in thinking that the marriage of Frederick JONES and Elsie Maude EVANS was registered in the Thornbury Registration district (see FreeBMD) during the June Quarter of 1909? If so, I think they can be found living at Almondsbury on the 1911 census with a young son,
As the children you mentioned were born between 1921 and 1931 there is rather a gap before they were born – do you know of other older children?
If this is the same family then Frederick JONES was born in about 1889 in Pilning and appears on the 1891 census with his parents Matthew and Harriet JONES living at Marsh Common Almondsbury. This differs from several Family Trees which appear on the Ancestry site which give him completely different parents so I’d be interested in what you have found out about the family. If you have Frederick and Elsie’s marriage certificate - that should give the fathers’ names.

Arthur MORGAN published by Pat Hase - 12 years 2 months 3 days ago. | | On the 1911 census his age is given as 30, place of birth as Notting Hill in London and occupation Hawker. However, there is an Army Record for him under the British Army WW1 Pension Records 1914-1920 (on Ancestry) - his enlistment on 12th Oct 1914 gives his age as 30 years 150 days, place of birth as Notting Hill and occupation Hawker - suggesting that he could have been born in about June 1884.
This record also names his wife, Caroline PRESTON, gives the date and place of their marriage and the birth dates of his first two children so it is the correct Arthur MORGAN. It also says that he was discharged on the 30th Oct 1914 - so he didn't last very long in the Army!

Maria Sperrin published by tonysperrin - 12 years 2 months 5 days ago. | | Hi Tina. You may know much of this. Maria was the eldest of 5 children of Samuel and Priscilla Sperrin (nee North) born 1865, died 1953 and according to the WSMFH cemetery disc buried in a joined grave with her parents and sister Rosina. In 1891, her husband to be Walter Hawkins was a private in the 17th Lancers based in Colchester, where he says he was born. They married in 1893 in Medway district of Kent. By 1911 they had 6 children Hannah, Jack, Walter, Elsie, Minnie and James. Samuel was Baptised on July 28th 1839 Bedminster. A census gives his birth in Clevedon which would be right. Priscilla was born in Chilcott c1840 to Thomas and Ann (nee Reeves) and had 6 siblings. By 1861 Priscilla was living in Regent Street, WSM as a servant. I suspect she met Samuel there as he had been living in Regents Cottages not a stone throw away. They married and lived in Union Street where Maria was born, Then to (St) James Street where Samuel had an umbrella shop for many years on the north corner on Richmond Street. Incidentally, Samuel was one of approx 17 children to John George and Jane Sperrin (nee Coulter). They married in Tavistock in August 1817. John George deserted his wife in 1841 and a removal order for Jane from Bristol to WSM and some children makes interesting reading where 8 children are mentioned. They were reunited in WSM. They are also buried in WSM cemetery. I hope this helps. Tony
